Metalwork & Ironwork
50 pieces · 125€ – 6500€
Antique ironwork and metalwork represent one of the oldest craft traditions. From wrought-iron candelabras and Spanish grilles to French decorative bronzes, these pieces bring presence and solidity. We include hardware, locks, door knockers, braziers, fireplace andirons, and metal sculptures.
Buying tips
Distinguish between hand-forged iron (irregular surfaces, hammer marks) and cast iron (smooth, uniform surface). Surface oxidation is normal and adds patina, but deep corrosion weakens the piece. Ask whether any protective treatment has been applied.

Post a requestFrequently asked questions
- How to prevent antique iron from rusting?
- Apply microcrystalline wax or a specific protective oil for metals. For outdoor pieces, a matte clear varnish offers greater protection. Avoid very humid environments and, if rust spots appear, remove them with a soft-bristle brush before re-protecting.
- What types of antique metalwork are there?
- The range is wide: wrought-iron grilles and balconies, candelabras and sconces, locks and hardware, door knockers, braziers, fireplace andirons, mortars, bells, bronze sculptures, brass and copper objects, and pewter items such as plates and jugs.
- Is antique wrought iron stronger than modern iron?
- Hand-forged wrought iron has a fibrous structure that makes it flexible and resistant to fatigue. Modern cast iron is more rigid but brittle. Both have their advantages, but antique forged pieces are exceptionally durable when properly maintained.
