Monumental grille of Toledo forging, probably from the 16th–17th centuries, made of solid iron with large-section vertical bars and a solid structure. The composition features a regular grid of hand-forged bars with traditional historical ironwork finishes and joints.
The piece shows a high-quality artisanal execution, characteristic of architectural grilles intended for manor houses and noble buildings in southern Spain. It retains well-crafted decorative elements at the corners and original forging details that evidence the manual workshop work. Due to its proportions and typology, it is an architectural grille of monumental character.
Object history
This grille comes from the same noble house as another similar piece with a heraldic crest and a double-headed eagle, for sale at antiga.es. Unlike that one, this grille presents a more sober structure, without a noble shield or upper heraldic finish, suggesting it may have been part of a secondary window or a less representative area of the building.
Due to its style and execution technique, it can be placed within the tradition of Spanish architectural ironwork from the modern era, probably between the 16th and 17th centuries. Elements of this type were common in urban palaces and manor houses in southern Spain, many of which have been transformed or disappeared in recent centuries, allowing pieces like this to reach the antique market today.
