Rustic Castilian door crafted in solid pine, sourced from a traditional village house in the medieval town of Atienza, Guadalajara.
The leaf displays a paneled composition with irregular proportions, clearly handcrafted. The panels do not follow strict academic symmetry, which gives the piece a strong presence and authentic artisanal character.
The surface retains layered historic finishes and a deep, darkened patina developed through decades of use, with tonal variations and natural wear that enhance its rural identity.
Humble in origin yet deeply expressive, each irregularity reflects manual craftsmanship and its domestic architectural context.
Object history
This door originated from a traditional village house in Atienza, one of Castilla’s most historically significant towns. Unlike noble residences, rural homes of the late 19th century were built with local materials and functional solutions, where durability and the skill of the local craftsman were paramount.
The uneven panel proportions and spontaneous carving reflect non-industrial execution typical of rural workshops. The door was carefully removed during restoration works at the original property, preserving its structure and authentic character.
It represents late 19th-century Castilian vernacular domestic architecture, defined by simplicity and material honesty.
