Oil on panel depicting a hunting landscape, dated between the 17th and 18th centuries. The scene shows horsemen and dogs in the midst of a hunt. The use of color and composition reflect typical techniques of the period. The frame is made of wood with decorative details. The painting has an original patina with wear consistent with its age.
Object history
Circle of the painter Kristiaan Reuder or Christian Reder (1656 – 1729) was a German painter who traveled to Rome, Papal States, where he lived for several years.
He was born in Leipzig and traveled to Venice at a young age. By 1690 he was in Rome, where he married Eleonora Paperi in 1693 and reportedly had eight children by 1709. Reuder became a member of the Bentvueghels with the nickname Leander. He died in Rome.
