Description

Sculpture 'Panther Hunter' in black terracotta, created in the second half of the 19th century. It depicts an ancient hunter being attacked by a panther, which is trying to snatch a cub from him. The work combines classical idealization with naturalistic representation. Signed by P. Ipsen, Copenhagen, Eneret 290. It features detailed finishing and a dynamic expression in the figures.

Object history

The sculpture brought international success to Danish sculptor Jens Adolf Jerichau in 1846.
