Object history

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries (circa 1890–1910), bedroom design in Europe underwent a significant evolution. With the advent of the industrial era and a growing emphasis on domestic hygiene, metal and brass beds gradually replaced traditional wooden structures, being regarded as symbols of cleanliness, sturdiness, and durability.

During this period, artisanal workshops and foundries combined the strength of iron and tubular brass with elaborate decorative elements in cast bronze. The elegant upper crest crowning this piece—with its classic palmette and floral openwork—reflects the transition from historicist taste toward the organic lines of Art Nouveau.

Today, pieces such as this retain the authenticity, natural patina, and distinctive character of an era when industrial functionality merged with decorative craftsmanship.
